The little one got up early this morning, which meant he wouldn’t let his mother cook. So I helped out in making the bentos. Some of the items were from the day before, which made things quick and easy. In looking through the refrigerator we found Shiso (Beefsteak Plant) and though it might be nice to go with tamagoyaki.

Facts about Shiso (紫蘇, Perilla)

– Shiso has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for more than 2000 years.
– It helps to promote a healthy appetite and aids in restful sleep.
– The plant has a lot of vitamins and minerals which helps to boost the immune system and helps in promoting a soothing effect on the skin.
– Since it has high antibacterial properties its effective against cold and flu, food poisoning

Shiso Tamagoyaki recipe

3 eggs
1 tbsp. soy sauce
1 tbsp. mirin
2 shiso leafs
Splash of oil

1. Beat the eggs until smooth.
2. Cut shiso leafs into small pieces.
3. Add soy sauce, mirin and shiso to eggs.
4. Heat pan until hot and add oil.
5. Pour a thin layer of eggs on the pan, wait unit eggs begin to cook and then roll to one side. Continue adding eggs and rolling until you have an egg roll.
6. Remove from pan and cut into pieces and serve.
